内容简述

 

In this talk, quantification of complex vortex dynamics in human right atria (RA) will be presented. Three-dimensional time-resolved phase-contrast cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (4DMRI) measurements are conducted on 24 adult volunteers. Comprehensive data analyses are applied to extract the quantitative representation of coherent vortex structures in RA; see the image below. The study originally targeted at reliable early diagnosis of Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO).

PFO, a remnant of the normal fatal circulation, occurs in a quarter of the general UK population but has been observed to occur in almost half of patient with cryptogenic stroke. Although poorly defined, potential mechanisms proposed include paradoxical embolism from a venous source, direct embolisation from within the PFO or coexistent left atrial dysfunction similar to that seen with atrial arrhythmias. This study suggests that the closure of PFO is related to coherent (or not) blood flow (vortex) pattern within right atria (RA) during systole of a cardiac cycle.

 

A detailed quantification of the flow quantities associated with the vortex patterns or the entire RA chamber will help us understand the possible correlation of PFO with abnormal RA flow patterns and hence provide alternative symptom capture and early diagnosis. Such a quantitative knowledge of the flow field may further infer other RA related disease, e.g. tricuspid stenosis.

 

报告人简介

 

目前,干联博士作为助理教授就职于英国杜伦大学,研究方向为流体力学。他在中国的全额奖学金计划资助下于新加坡国立大学攻读了机械工程硕士学位,专业为航空航天。并于剑桥大学获得博士学位,专业为流体力学,博士期间他对湍流涡环进行了一系列实验研究。干联博士的研究兴趣是基于粒子成像测速(从二维粒子成像测速到粒子成像测速系统)的湍流和涡流动力学实验研究。目前他的研究领域逐渐扩展到流体力学在人类心脏中的应用。

Dr.LianGan (干联)is an assistant professor of fluid mechanics at Durham University, UK. He obtained his MEng degree from Mechanical Engineering, National University of Singapore, specialised in aeronautics, under the full-scholarship scheme for students from China. He obtained his PhD degree from University of Cambridge Engineering fluid mechanics group on experimental investigation of turbulent vortex rings. His research interests and speciality are in experimental study of turbulence and vortex dynamics, using Particle Image Velocimetry (from 2DPIV to TomoPIV). Recently his research interest extends to applications in human cardiac fluid dynamics.
